How To Benefit From Life Coach Skills In Data Science

Why would a data scientist want a life coach? There is nothing scientific about life coaching.

If you had spoken to me about life coaching a year ago, I might have agreed with that statement.

But not anymore.

Your mindset is critical to be successful in any profession.

The importance of mindset is especially true for anyone looking to get into tech. The tech-space is continually developing, and at such a rapid pace, it is hard to keep up.

A life coach will help you to develop your mindset and become more grounded.

Why working on your mindset is essential.

To be successful with your data science career in tech, you need to be able to cut through the crap, visualize the bigger picture and be grounded enough to see the next step.

In particular, when it comes to you growing your career and being able to stand out in the world of data science, you need to be able to have the state of mind to back yourself and know that what you were working towards is valuable.

There is so much out there for you to learn; you need to be able to understand which area you should focus on.

To do this, you need to be able to take that step back and see the bigger picture.

You need to be grounded enough to understand exactly what you want to achieve out of your career in data science.

Let me tell you a little bit about my story.

How I shifted to a grounded mindset

Over the past eight years, I have bounced around between various careers within the STEM fields.

Throughout this time, I have learned many useful skills and enjoyed diving deep into different subject matters.

However, it wasn’t until I discovered the world of machine learning three years ago that I found my calling. For the next couple of years, I was utterly overwhelmed by the amount of material that was to learn.

I started my blog to help other people get through the overwhelm and provide them with concise to the point guides and tutorials. However, I didn’t know where I was going.

It wasn’t until I started to see a life coach that I began to understand what my mission was within the world of artificial intelligence and how I could help people.

Now I have a clear view of where I’m going, and I am excited to share that with the world.

Since making this shift, I have seen a significant change. I have done better at work – driving machine learning innovations in big tech, and I have also developed my coaching mastermind programs to help others do the same in AI.

I’ve seen how my mindset has changed. Furthermore, I can see how this shift in mindset will benefit you too as you look to navigate your career in data science.

Why entrepreneurial Data Scientists need to develop their entrepreneur mindset

When you are working in innovative fields such as machine learning, it is easy to get sucked into trying to learn everything about the latest innovations.

People who get into this field do it because they are passionate they are smart, and there are driven to help change the world.

With all of this drive comes a lot of creativity and ability. However, if you want to make a difference, you need to know how to channel the unique skills you bring into something that’s going to add value to people.

It is here that is the reason why having a life coach or at least employing some of the techniques that a life coach would teach you is so important.

It may be challenging to quantify to a statistically significant level the importance of mindset on success.

Despite this, there is plenty of quantitative data that will prove beyond a reasonable doubt that having the right mindset will help you to succeed.

The power of the mind

The mind is an incredibly powerful tool.

Harnessing the power of your mind can catapult you ahead of your colleagues and peers.

Here are 3 data points from successful tech entrepreneurs and leaders that show you the power of your mindset.

“The biggest risk is not taking any risk… In a world that’s changing really quickly, the only strategy that is guaranteed to fail, is not taking risks.”

Mark Zuckerberg, Co-founder of Facebook

“You can’t have everything you want, but you can have the things that really matter to you.”

Marissa Mayer, President and CEO of Yahoo!

“Keep going forward because success will come”

Cassandra Sanford, CEO Kelly Mitchell Group

If you can get just a fraction of the success of these icons, then it is worth investing in your mindset.

You may not be ready to invest in a life coach.

Nevertheless, I want to share three takeaways I have that will help you develop your mindset to be successful.

3 Takeaways from Life Coaching for People in Tech

There are three crucial mindset takeaways for people working in tech. These tips will help you see the big picture, define your success, and get to the next level.

Embrace the self and not the ego

It is easy to let your ego and the opinions of others drive your actions. Do not do this. Spend time thinking about who you are and what you want.

The opinions of others can help guide you but do not define you. If your world view is different, that is not a bad thing. Being different drives innovation, so follow your gut and embrace your true self.

Invest in the self

Do not be afraid to invest in yourself.

The investment comes in many forms, including financial, and time investment. You can invest in your education, your mindset, even your network but always invest in yourself.

Align with the values of the self

The biggest tip I have for you is to align what you are doing to your values. Use your values to drive your decisions when it comes to your career but also your life.

By doing this, you will find that not only do you have a much clearer picture of what your next step should be, but you will do it with passion.

When you align with your values, you align with your soul.

Having a fulfilled soul will mean that you love what you do and do it with ease.

Conclusion

Your mind is an incredibly powerful and valuable asset. When you think about where you want to take your career in technology, don’t be afraid to nourish your mindset and back yourself!
