5 Inspiring Nonprofits Making Technology More Accessible

Technology poverty is a severe risk to people in today’s world.

There is an increasing gap in those who have access to data and technology to leverage and those who do not.

That’s why I believe it’s incredibly important we do our part in supporting those working to reduce this gap.

Here are 5 non-profits working hard to make tech more accessible for everyone. Let’s do our best to help them out!

1. One Laptop Per Child

  • Mission: This charity does exactly what it says on the tin – their mission is to give every child access to a rugged, low-cost, low-power, connected laptop. This helps children to engage in their education and better with each other.  They are currently active in Latin America and Africa.
  • How you can help: You can provide donations, volunteer support or software.
  • Get Involved

2. Tech Trust

  • Mission: Bridge the gap between technology and charities. Tech Trust gives the charities access to the tools they need to be able to leverage the benefits associated with new technology that they may not otherwise have been able to afford.
  • How you can help: Contact them for the latest opportunities and spread the word!
  • Get Involved

  • Mission: A non-profit dedicated to expanding access to computer science in schools. The vision is to give everyone the opportunity to learn computer science and primarily targets women and underrepresented minorities.
  • How you can help: Spread the word, host a session or buy a T-Shirt

  • Get Involved

5. KoBo Toolbox

  • Mission: Provides data collection tools that can be used during humanitarian crises to collect data delivered through software. This helps in the relief effort, in particular in more deprived areas where they may not otherwise have access to the equipment needed to do such work.
  • How you can help: Spread the word and contact them for the latest opportunities.
  • Get Involved – check the support section

I know I feel genuinely inspired by what these people are doing and hope you do too.
